Heading East

It's about time I sat down and wrote a little bit again! After my most recent post we were in Indiana and Kentucky on one Sunday. Then we drove through Ohio and into Michigan to be at a preacher's meeting.  We had a great time there and were able to see our pastor and his wife. Many other preachers were there that we have met in the past and we also met some new ones that we will be with in the next few weeks.
We had two meetings in Michigan. Our next meeting was in Emmaus, PA. Since it was going to be a long drive we divided it up into a few days. We spent two days in Pittsburgh and two in Lancaster before arriving in Emmaus.
I had been to LVBC as a child when my parents were on furlough. I really don't remember much from that visit so it was like meeting everyone for the first time. We have had enjoyable services and wonderful fellowship. Some of the families have had us over for supper and it has been a real pleasure to get to know them better.
They have a great bookstore at LVBC and we were able to purchase a Bible for Harry. He has a small New Testament that we forgot in Rochester and he has been asking for one of his own for a while now. Since we travel a lot we're always listening to music. We picked a few CD's also. One for the kids and a gospel CD for us.
Again we've been able to visit a few places along the way. We went to the Pittsburgh Zoo and saw the tabernacle in Lancaster. Just yesterday we went over to Philadelphia and saw Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. In a way it's sad the kids won't remember being there, but we'll have pictures to show them as they get older.
Pretty soon we'll be going to New York, Long Island, Maryland and New Jersey. How exciting! Since I've never been on the east coast I'm very excited about all the things we'll be seeing and doing in the next few weeks. It's such a privilege to be able to visit so many churches and see that there are many just like us!

Pre-summer fun!

Summer hasn't even started and we've been busy with fun activities. It's so important to keep things fun while traveling. Much of our 'fun time' consists of going to the park or the mall. We've had the privilege the past week to do some other fun and somewhat educational things.

Last week we were in Cincinnati. We were so close to many great places. The first place we went to was Entertrainment junction in West Chester. If you have kids that like trains this is a great place to go. Harry really loves trains and he loved this museum! There was a huge walk-through train display. It was divided into sections that showed  how trains have developed over the years. There was also a huge play area with a two-story playplace, Thomas the Train playsets and more. Harry loved riding on the train outside. Now he can say he has ridden Thomas! Kathy enjoyed the toddler play area and tried to get into everything!

We had heard about the Creation museum nearby and were thinking about going but decided to put it off til we came back through Ohio. But the church we were at asked if we were interested in going and they would pay our way. So Memorial Day we went to the museum. It was a very warm day and we were thankful for the air conditioning inside!  Harry enjoyed it but wanted to go through it quickly!  They didn't do very well in the planetarium. Harry kept asking if it was over...he doesn't like the dark!  Kathy kept saying 'mamma' and wanted to play. We had a good time. A pleasant way to spend the day as a family.  It was so refreshing to go to a museum where instead of 'millions and millions of years ago' you see and hear ' around ? thousand years ago.'

Tuesday we were able to meet up with the Rettig family! I have known the Rettigs for years and haven't seen them in about two or so. It was such a pleasure seeing them again. We had a great time fellowshipping over food. :) Then we went over to the mall and Emilie, Amy and I went into JCPenney and abandoned the guys with the kids!!! We really enjoyed seeing them. I'm looking forward to possibly meeting up with them again when we go to Scotland!  The Czech Rep. isn't far away.

Since we started having nice weather Don has talked of going to see a baseball game. Yesterday someone from the church we are currently at offered us their tickets. They were not able to go. It's so neat the way God always works things out.  We really enjoyed the game and the kids were great. I was always a little nervous about going with the kids, but they had fun and we didn't hear a single complaint! Since it was their first baseball game I was able to get a certificate with their names on it. It was such a nice evening too. The teams were Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs. Reds won 8-2. We only stayed til the end of the 7th inning, by then it was past 9:30. We only had a half hour drive, so we didn't get back too late.

All in all we have had a lot of fun this past week and a half. Here and there we've still made trips to the mall - mainly in search of a play area - and been to a few parks.

Our support is up to 34% now. The first two churches we were in here in Ohio will be taking us on. We've mostly been in Cincinnati area and we went up to Akron last week. This Sunday we'll be in Indiana and Kentucky. Next week we'll be in Michigan.

And next week is when I'll be writing again. Until then...
